Tex Rides with the Boy Scouts

Tex Rides with the Boy Scouts (1937)
Dir: Armand SchaeferStaring Tex Ritter, Horace Murphy, Snub Pollard

Tex teams up with a group of Boy Scouts to try and find the culprit behind a train robbery.

So this is a Tex Ritter film that opens with a scene showing tribute to the boy scouts, and then segues into a story about Tex and his friends arriving in town looking for whomever is responsible for a train robbery and the million dollars in gold that was taken. Part of this includes working with a group of boy scouts. So basically if you imagine a typical thirties cheapie B western, then add in some scenes where the hero buddies up to some boy scouts then this is what you get.

The biggest problem with the film is that it is just dull. It spends too much time on bad comedy moments with Tex's sidekicks, and the scenes with the plot are a bit boring. The movie is only 62 minutes long, but it feels like it drags on forever. The singing scenes are alright though. There's also a couple of scenes with the Chinese man that runs the laundry that comes across a bit offensive and stereotypical.

Really this film is a bit overlong and boring. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Unless you want to watch a long commercial for the boy scouts then find a better use of your hour.
